Why I Built a Minigames Platform
05-21-2025
For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to make games. But for years, imposter syndrome kept me from starting. I didn’t have a fancy job title or experience at a big studio. It was just me and my ideas, with the persistent feeling that maybe I wasn’t “good” enough.
After some unpredictable years in tech, I realized I didn’t need anyone’s permission to create. I decided to bet on myself and see where this dream could go. That’s how MYOL MiniGames came about. It’s a platform for the games I’ve built and continue to build, completely free and free of ads.
The Problem with Existing Platforms
There are countless gaming platforms out there, but many of them share the same issues: they’re overflowing with games of wildly different quality. It’s tough to find hidden gems when they’re buried under a mountain of unfinished projects or rushed releases. Even more worrying, some games aren’t what they seem and can contain content that isn’t appropriate for everyone.
I wanted to create a space that prioritizes quality and maintains standards, a place where anyone can play, whether you’re on a break at work or a parent looking for something safe for your kids. If I couldn’t find that platform, I decided to build it.

Building MYOL MiniGames: The Technical Journey
I designed and developed everything myself, spending late nights learning and problem-solving. Each setback was a chance to push forward and turn an idea into something real.
For the platform, I used Astro for its performance and flexibility. React handles all the interactive pieces where needed, and Tailwind CSS keeps things looking clean and consistent. For the games themselves, I usually use Phaser.js for traditional game development, though some projects are built directly in React if the gameplay calls for it. This flexible approach lets me choose the best tool for each new idea.
Having my own platform means I can control the user experience from start to finish. There are no intrusive ads, no questionable content slipping through, and no algorithms boosting low-quality games just for clicks.

More Than Just a Gaming Site
MYOL MiniGames isn’t just a website. It shows that you don’t have to wait for approval or the perfect moment to start. Every game represents hours of creativity, problem-solving, and the simple joy of building something from scratch.
This journey taught me the biggest obstacle is often just self-doubt. You don’t have to be “qualified” to begin. You become qualified by getting started, making mistakes, learning, and trying again.

A Message to Fellow Creators
If you have creative ambitions, let this be your sign to start. The technical skills can be learned. The tools are more accessible than ever. What really matters is your idea and your willingness to see where it takes you. Some of the best things I’ve built started out as side experiments.

What’s Next
MYOL MiniGames keeps growing. I’m always working on new games, refining the platform, and looking for ways to make things better. It’s rewarding to have a space of my own to experiment freely and share with others.
I’d love to hear your feedback or words of encouragement. Whether you’re a fellow developer, a casual gamer, or you’ve got your own creative idea brewing, let’s connect.
Here’s to overcoming doubts, trying new things, and sharing what we make. The internet is big enough for all of our weird and wonderful ideas, so let’s keep building them.
tl;dr
Frustrated with oversaturated gaming platforms full of low-quality and inappropriate content, I built my own curated gaming platform using Astro, React, and Tailwind. MYOL MiniGames houses my original games (built with Phaser.js and React) in an ad-free, all-ages safe environment. It's proof that you don't need permission or perfect credentials to start creating.
